Press Release
National Disaster Preparedness Day
Chloé Blanchard
Created due to the fact that the vast majority of Palo Alto city residents lack sufficient preparation as well as adequate supplies for any type of natural disaster, National Disaster Preparedness Day, a Palo Alto based non-profit organization, is hosting a city-wide event on September 4th, 2011. The day, which is the first of a proposed yearly event, is to be located at King Plaza in front of Palo Alto City Hall, in the downtown area of the city.
Throughout the duration of the event, there will be a wide variety of activities provided to the general public, such as demonstrations provided by the Palo Alto Fire and Police departments as well as useful lessons on what to do in the event of a natural disaster or emergency and how to properly and effectively prepare for all types of disaster. Additionally, various vendors will be present to provide the supplies necessary for creating an adequate disaster preparedness kit, such as tents, blankets, among other useful tools for surviving a natural disaster.
Press Release Continued
The National Disaster Preparedness Day event includes food and drink prepared by the Palo Alto Fire Department itself, as well as musical entertainment by various local bands throughout the day. In addition, a variety of disaster supplies will be given away to a certain number of early attendees. All residents of Palo Alto are encouraged to stop by and participate in National Disaster Preparedness Day, whether it be in the form of picking up a list of supplies necessary for a disaster preparedness kit, purchasing essential items for the kit itself, or learning how to prepare and act in terms of any type of natural disaster.
National Disaster Preparedness Day aims to provide the public with a sustainable resource in terms of education as well as physical assistance on an annual basis. National Disaster Preparedness Day, or NDPD for short, maintains a public website, ndpd.org, through which it provides various supply lists and tips on how to properly assemble and update a natural disaster preparedness kit, as well as resources for purchasing the correct supplies. For further information, feel free to contact NDPD at info_ndpd.org, or visit the website to learn how to become a member or donate to the non-profit organization.
